JOHANNESBURG - The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) on Tuesday said society is not doing enough to combat the recent spike in cop killings across the country.

The union said it is becoming increasingly concerned that police members are being targeted.

This follows the death of at least four policemen in Johannesburg and Cape Town over the last two weeks.

Popcru spokesperson Theto Mahlakoane said communities need to work together to apprehend the killers.

"We need to raise as much awareness as we need, until we reach a point where society takes it upon itself to make sure that people who murder police are arrested and convicted for these crimes."
