JOHANNESBURG - The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) on Sunday denied reports that it wants to spend R4,8 million on covering the 75th birthday celebrations of Orlando Pirates.

The Sunday Times reported that the public broadcaster planned to spend R1 million for a rights fee and an additional R3,8 million on external production costs on the celebrations.

But SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago said the newspaper misunderstood their plan.

Kganyago said Orlando Pirates was used merely as an example.

"What we have is a plan, to do documentaries of different kinds of teams that are reaching a milestone including Orlando Pirates.

"It must not even be about soccer but rather other sporting codes."
