CAPE TOWN - Striking miners in Rustenburg on Saturday said they were in talks with students from universities across the country to join their national protest.

They said they have already been joined by their colleagues in Limpopo, Mpumalanga and Gauteng in their call for a basic salary of R12,500.

During a meeting in Marikana, strike leader Mmametlwe Sebei said students from the Tshwane University have already indicated they will join the protest.

"We believe that the issue we are raising are issues that concern everybody and not only mineworkers.
