CAPE TOWN - Springbok Sevens coach Paul Treu wants a good start from his team when their season gets underway.

The Blitzbokke face Canada in their first match when the Gold Coast Sevens kicks off in Australia on Saturday.

South Africa failed to win a match in their last campaign.

Treu says they need to maintain a high standard throughout.

"It's going to be important to remain focused throughout the 80 minutes. We have to play hard to the best of our ability in every game and hopefully we can make it to our first final again."

Treu says the return of key players will boost their chances.

"We're very fortunate to have players like Paul Delport and Cecil Afrika fit and healthy. Tshotsho Mbovane is also back in the team. He brings that unpredictability to the team and hopefully he's going to bring some of that momentum and just take some of the pressure off Afrika as well."
