Samwu will ‘definitely’ embark on a strike
SA Municipal Workers’ Union said it will go on strike by next week.
JOHANNESBURG - Members of the South African Municipal Workers' Union (Samwu) are preparing to start their strike by next week, but have still not decided if it will be a one-day national work stoppage or a prolonged strike.
The municipal workers union consulted with its members in Thursday in an attempt to confirm details of the strike.
National spokesperson Tahir Sema said, "The union will definitely embark on its action. The consultation process with more than 200,000 employees is still currently underway.
"The moment that concludes, the decision will be made public."
Municipal workers are demanding a restructuring of pay scales.
The union said employers had not yet responded to their demands by Friday morning.
