JOHANNESBURG - African National Congress (ANC) members should beware of "the enemy within" as they head to the party's elective conference in Manguang in December, President Jacob Zuma warned on Friday.

Zuma was addressing the Umkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans' Association (MKMVA) conference in Boksburg, east of Johannesburg.

He used quotes from former ANC president Oliver Tambo often during his address.

Zuma said there are members in the ANC who continue to sow divisions within the party and want to break it apart.

He said these forces continue to cause tension and want to destroy the work of all of those who fought in the struggle.

The president also admitted the party is at a crossroads as members head to Manguang to elect its new president and leadership.

Zuma said members should be vigilant and vote carefully in December.
