ANC Free State court debacle begins
A court will hear a case that could result in the Free State ANC's conference declared null and void.
JOHANNESBURG - The Bloemfontein High Court will hear a case on Thursday, that could result in the Free State ANC's conference - that saw Ace Magashula re-elected as its leader - declared null and void.
The outcome could also have implications for the national ANCs leadership race.
The Free State ANC has said it is supporting President Jacob Zuma for another term.
One of the applicants, Mpho Ramakatsa, claims the Free State ANC has not properly argued against their accusations.
He said applicants argued that the Provincial Executive Committee could not function properly.
Ramakatsasaid the region also incorrectly claimed that one of the applicants in the case was no longer interested in arguing the matter.
The ANC will hold its national elective conference in Mangaung this December, where 4,500 delegates will vote for a new leadership.
Zuma and his deputy Kgalema Motlanthe are the front-runners in the race for the top job.
