'Malema's trust benefitted from tender'
Thuli Madonsela says Malema’s Ratanang Trust benefited improperly from a Limpopo tender.
PRETORIA - Public Protector Thuli Madonsela on Wednesday released her final report into On-Point Engineering, questioning the circumstances under which a tender was awarded.
The engineering company is owned by Guilder Investments, where former ANC Youth League Leader (ANCYL) Julius Malema is the main shareholder.
Madonsela resolved that the tender awarded to On-Point Engineering was improper.
"The way the company conducted itself is in violation of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act. It is true that the Ratanang Family Trust benefited improperly."
The company was only a month old when it made a bid to the Limpopo Roads and Transport Department.
It was subsequently granted a R52 million tender.
The public protector also fingered those in the department for maladministration after officials failed to check whether On-Point handed in all the correct documents.
Malema is currently out on bail.
He faces money laundering charges relating to funds he received through On-Point via his trust.
Malema's Ratanang Family Trust is one of the two main shareholders in On-Point Engineering.
