Smith reacts to Collier comments
Proteas test captain Graeme Smith has praised acting CSA CEO Jacques Faul's strong leadership.
CAPE TOWN - Proteas test captain Graeme Smith has praised the strong leadership shown by acting Cricket South Africa (CSA) CEO Jacques Faul in his condemnation of comments made by the England Cricket Board (ECB).
This after the ECB's David Collier said South African players provoked Kevin Pietersen, which resulted in him being dropped from the England squad.
Collier said South African players should take some responsibility for the situation, as they had "provoked" Pietersen.
Speaking exclusively to Eyewitness News Sport , Smith said it is hard to believe the issue is still going on.
"What's happened in the last few days has been very disappointing, but I think the way Jacques Faul handled is exactly right."
Smith says Collier needs to be held accountable.
"We are extremely disappointed and we think that someone like David Collier, in his position, needs to be held accountable for the things that he says. That's the simple matter of it all.
"Players are accountable for things they say when they are out of line. I think that he [Collier] needs to be held accountable for his comments."
Pietersen has since returned to the squad after making peace with the ECB.
