Police arrest 10 for public disturbance
Residents of Dreizicht want land from government so they can build houses.
JOHANNESBURG - 10 people were arrested on Saturday for public disturbance after angry residents barricaded the golden highway, south of Johannesburg, with rocks in Dreizicht near Orange Farm.
It is believed the residents want government to offer them land to build houses.
Although the crowd has dispersed, it has threatened to regroup.
The police's Tshifhiwa Mitileni said officers are keeping a close eye on the informal settlement.
“They came with a letter of demand and also tried to stone the police vehicles.
“So the public order police were called to the scene who then managed to disperse them.
“We can confirm that 10 people were arrested.”
