Two trucks torched in Wadeville
EMPD said two trucks and a delivery vehicle were set alight in Wadeville on the East Rand.
JOHANNESBURG - Two trucks and a delivery vehicle were set alight in Wadeville on Gauteng's East Rand, the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) said on Friday.
It is still not clear where some of the drivers are, but nobody was injured in the incident.
Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management spokesperson William Ntladi said the fires are under control.
EMPD and emergency personnel responded to the incidents.
In Cape Town, seven delivery trucks were torched on Friday.
Officials believe the fires could be linked to the ongoing nationwide truck driver strike.
Workers are demanding a wage increase of around 12 percent.
There have also been numerous reports of violence and intimidation on non-striking truck drivers.
