JOHANNESBERG - The North Gauteng High Court has ordered the Limpopo Education Department to deliver the remaining outstanding textbook to pupils in the province by Friday next week.

Rights organisation Section27 approached the court for the order after government failed to fully implement two previous orders.

Judge Jody Kollapen first noted that the Limpopo and National Departments of Education failed to comply with two previous court orders.

He has ordered that the remaining textbooks be delivered by next Friday, and that the department file progress reports by the following Wednesday.

Kollapen further ruled that plans for the delivery of textbooks for the next school year must be filed by the end of this month, and they must be delivered by the middle of December.

The judge said it was distressing that a month before the end of the school year, there are pupils without textbooks.

Kollapen said children deserved much better.
