JOUBERT PARK - A manhunt is underway after a Hillbrow policeman was killed and a reservist wounded in an ambush on Wednesday afternoon.

Police said the officers were attacked while leaving a flat in Joubert Park, Johannesburg.

Both were shot several times.

The sergeant's body lay on the street for hours covered with a silver blanket, as police cleared the scene.

Onlookers gazed at the two bloody stains where the bodies of the men lay after the attack.

Police could not say what lured the officers to the flat, but said they were both on duty at the time.

It was revealed after the shooting that the sergeant's firearm was taken from his person.

Police spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini said police were on the hunt for two suspects who were seen leaving the murder scene.

Two men were questioned several hours after the shooting, but had not yet been charged by Thursday.

Last night, the reservist was said to be in a stable but critical condition in hospital.

In a separate incident, a metro policeman was shot by a fleeing robber in Roodepoort on Wednesday afternoon.

The metro cop later died in hospital, while his alleged attacker was wounded in a shootout with the late officer.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
