JOHANNESBURG - Former president Nelson Mandela is in good health and spirits, President Jacob Zuma said on Wednesday.

Zuma visited Madiba at his Homestead in Qunu last night, following a visit to the Eastern Cape's King Sabatha Dalindyebo Municipality to launch new schools.

The launch of schools formed part of government's Accelerated School Infrastructure Delivery Initiative (ASIDI), a programme aimed at eradicating schools without water, sanitation and electricity.

Presidential spokesperson Mac Maharaj said it was wonderful for Zuma to spend time with the 94-year-old world icon.

"The president was able to update him on what was happening in the country.

"The president also assured him of the love of all South Africans and said Madiba looked as handsome as ever."
