JOHANNESBURG - President Jacob Zuma has appointed Science and Technology Minister Naledi Pandor as acting minister of Home Affairs, The Presidency said on Tuesday.

Former Home Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma officially vacated the position at the end of September to take up her new role as head of the African Union commission.

Zuma's spokesperson Mac Maharaj said he would not comment on whether this appointment was an indication that Pandor would get the job on a permanent basis.

"I do not want to speculate at the moment. Pandor will hold the acting position alongside her current position [as Science and Technology minister]."
