CPT man shot dead, IPID probes shooting
The IPID is investigating the death of a Cape Town man at the hands of the police.
CAPE TOWN - The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating the death of a man, who was shot in the back, allegedly by police.
The officers were responding to a domestic violence complaint in Kalkfontein over the weekend.
They claim 27-year-old Denzil Daniels tried to stab them and was resisting arrest when he was shot.
The IPID's Moses Dlamini says it is alleged Daniels was wanted for domestic violence and malicious damage to property.
A post-mortem will be carried out on Tuesday.
In a separate incident, the IPID is investigating the death of a local councillor in Marikana.
Paulina Masutlhe died after he was allegedly shot by police.
Six other people were wounded during the incident.
On Saturday, the community was prevented from protesting against what they call police brutality in the area.
