Apparent suicide at Springs school
A Springs learner was yesterday discovered by a janitor hanging in a room near her school’s hall.
JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng Department of Education on Friday said it was shocked at the news of the passing of a grade 10 learner at a high school in Springs, east of Johannesburg.
The young girl was discovered by the school janitor on Thursday, hanging in a room near the school hall.
He was locking classrooms when he came across her hanging body.
Department spokesperson Charles Phahlane said they would work closely with the police and school management to determine the reasons behind the apparent suicide.
He said Gauteng Education MEC Barbara Creecy launched an independent investigation into circumstances surrounding the student's death.
