JOHANNESBURG - A Roodepoort school is under investigation for apparently hiring a teacher who has no qualifications.

Eyewitness News learnt about the situation at Allen Glen High School from a concerned parent, who came forward with the information.

The woman, who had been teaching English to grade eight, nine and ten pupils for several months now, was hired as a full time member of the staff despite having obtained her matric qualification in 2011.

The school also came under fire from the Basic Education Department for hiring her, because she has no teaching experience.

Department spokesperson Charles Phahlane said, "What is happening at that school is unacceptable and that person has to stop teaching immediately."

The department has ultimately placed the blame on the school's governing body.
