Malema prevented from entering Marikana
Police prevented expelled ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema from entering Marikana.
MARIKANA - Expelled ANC Youth League (ANCYL) leader Julius Malema was chased out of Marikana by police on Monday.
Malema arrived in the North West town to address striking Lonmin mineworkers who gathered at the Wonderkop Stadium.
But he was given 10 minutes to leave or face arrest.
The controversial politician arrived and headed to the stadium where workers were waiting for feedback on their wage demands.
Police cornered him and told him he had 10 minutes to leave.
Malema then started driving towards the informal settlements, saying he wanted to speak to the community.
Dozens of police then surrounded the former ANCYL leader, and chased him out of the settlement towards the N4 highway.
A police chopper circled above while Malema was being escorted.
During the scuffle, Malema shouted he was not there to incite violence.
