JOHANNESBURG - Power was restored to 14 neighbourhoods in the Roodepoort area in Johannesburg's West Rand after a fire at a substation earlier on Monday.

City Power said the outage was allegedly caused by a man who tried to steal cables at its Roodetown substation.

The man's body was found at the scene and it was believed he was electrocuted.

City Power spokesperson Sol Masolo said they were committed to restoring electricity to all the other suburbs.

"We have restored power to Kloofendal, Allens Nek, Strubens Valley, Port View, Honeydew, Little Falls, Wilgeheuwel, Constentia Kloof, Weltevredenpark, Discovery, Georgiana, Horizon and Ontdekkers Park."
