JOHANNESBURG - A schoolboy has died after he was knocked down on the Golden Highway in Eldorado Park, south of Johannesburg.

The 11-year-old boy, who was in his school uniform, was crossing the road when he was hit by a car on Thursday morning.

ER24 spokesperson Vanessa Jackson said the boy was declared dead at the scene by paramedics.

She said the driver of the car and its passengers were uninjured.

A police investigation into the cause of the incident is underway, added Jackson.

The accident comes just hours after a schoolchild was killed and another injured in a similar accident.

Two teenage boys, also in their school uniform, were run over by a car in Bezuidenhout Valley, east of Johannesburg, yesterday.

One was pronounced dead at the scene while another is in a critical condition in hospital.
