JOHANNESBURG - Police say a Johannesburg motorist was shot and wounded by a metro police officer in an apparent road rage incident on Wednesday.

It is believed the motorist pointed a firearm at the off-duty officer after their cars collided in Honeydew, west of Jo'burg.

The shooter allegedly snatched a firearm from the officer's girlfriend, who is a police officer.

Spokesperson for the Johannesburg Metro Police Department, Wayne Minnaar, said no arrests had yet been made but that an investigation was underway.

He said the motorist was in a stable condition in hospital.
