Joemat-Pettersson 'snubs' Parly
Fisheries Minister Tina Joemat-Pettersson has been accused of snubbing her ministry's portfolio committee.
CAPE TOWN - Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Tina Joemat-Pettersson was on Tuesday accused of snubbing a meeting in Parliament.
The minister on Tuesday failed to arrive for a briefing on the state of her department.
A furious Congress of the People (COPE) MP told the committee he would not accept her apology, after he learnt she would not be attending the briefing.
Nqaba Bhanga says Joemat-Pettersson thinks she is better than the committee.
Democratic Alliance (DA) MP Peter van Dalen slammed the minister, saying she did not seem to care.
Another parliamentarian said her absence was unacceptable, especially when considering the disorder the fisheries branch is in.
Joemat-Pettersson's ANC colleagues also expressed anger, but were quick to add it was crucial for proceedings to continue.
It said the committee needed to do its work with or without the minister present.
