CAPE TOWN - A handful of Touws River residents from the Zion Park informal settlement took to the streets to protest poor service delivery on Monday morning.

Protesters torched tyres and placed boulders on the N1, which forced authorities to close the road in both directions.

The police's November Filander said around 70 people continue to protest sporadically.

"Drivers were urged to be patient as policed dealt with the situation."

"Residents were burning tyres and blockaded the road."

However, the situation seems to have calmed in the small Karoo town.
