Diamond to lead SKA Organisation
Veteran astronomy Professor Philip Diamond has been appointed as the director for the SKA Organisation.
JOHANNESBURG - The Square Kilometer Array (SKA) Organisation on Wednesday appointed Professor Philip Diamond as its new director general.
The SKA Organisation is the global body overseeing the multi-billion rand project.
The project will be shared between South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, with South Africa getting the lion's share of the work.
The SKA will be the world's most powerful radio telescope.
Diamond, who has over 30-years of experience in astronomy, will start his new job in October.
Speaking to Eyewitness News , he said he was honoured at having been selected to lead the project.
"The first four years will be the per-construction phase where we will turn the SKA concept into design."
Diamond said one of his first priorities will be to visit South Africa.
