Two people have lost their lives in a Cape Town shack fire.

CAPE TOWN - At least two people have died in a shack fire near Bishop Lavis, Cape Town fire officials said on Tuesday.

The couple's home at the Malawi informal settlement caught alight in the early hours of the morning.

Fire Services' Theo Layne said, "At this stage, the cause of the fire is unknown."

Over 50 people have been killed in shack fires in the Western Cape since the beginning of 2012.
