'Nomvethe injury a blow for Swallows'
Moroka Swallows captain Lefa Tsutsulupa says they are worried about Siyabonga Nomvete's ankle injury.
JOHANNESBURG - Moroka Swallows captain Lefa Tsutsulupa on Monday said his club is worried about striker Siyabonga Nomvete's ankle injury ahead of the MTN8 final against SuperSport United.
Nomvethe was dropped from the Bafana Bafana squad to face Brazil in São Paulo this weekend, after suffering a blow to his ankle during a Premier Soccer League (PSL) game.
Swallows beat Pirates 3-0 at Orlando Stadium on Saturday evening.
Swallows came close to winning the MTN8 trophy in 2010, only to lose to Pirates in a penalty shootout where they were compelled to field an injured Nomvethe.
Tsutsulupa said he hopes history will not repeat itself.
"If he can't play in the final, it will be a serious blow to us. He's been connecting very well with the other attacking players, so he has a lot to offer."
Tsutsulupa said unlike in 2010 where Nomvethe was the pillar of the team, there are now players who can score goals.
"We have players who can fill in that void. We still have Katlego Mashego and the other guys so they'll need to rise up to the occasion."
The MTN8 final will take place on September 23.
