YCL lashes out at Discovery
The YCL is not happy with Tony Blair being amongst the invited guests to the Discovery leadership summit.
JOHANNESBURG - The Young Communist League (YCL) on Thursday lashed out at Discovery accusing the company of ignoring the controversy it caused by inviting Tony Blair to speak at its leadership summit.
The league's Buti Manamela was speaking at a protest outside the Sandton Convention Centre on Thursday where Blair addressed delegates.
"Although this is referred to as invest in leadership summit, part of their agenda is to continue with the genocide that medical aid companies are committing in our country and to oppose the National Health Insurance."
The protesters called for Blair to be arrested and charged for his involvement in the war on Iraq.
Earlier this week, Archbishop Desmond Tutu withdraw from the summit as a protest against Blair.
Tutu believes the Iraqi invasion was unnecessary.
However, Blair said he does not regret his decision to back the war.
He said he was not fazed by Tutu's withdrawal.
