'WP duo needed more game time'
WP backline coach Robbie Fleck says Duane Vermeulen and Johan Goosen needed more game time.
CAPE TOWN - Western Province backline coach Robbie Fleck on Thursday said Duane Vermeulen and Johan Goosen could have done with more game time before their Springbok call-up.
Vermeulen and Goosen are both returning from injuries.
The flank has played two games but has not played for 80 minutes, while Goosen had just 40 minutes on the field.
Fleck said their talent will make up for their lack of game time.
"They haven't played a lot of rugby and you need to get exposure [to play] at the top level. Both of them probably needed another two games under their belts before playing for the Boks."
Fleck said the call-ups have been a long time coming.
"Duane should have been called two years ago, but his injuries have let him down. On the other hand, for me, Johan Goosen is the most talented youngster in the country."
Fleck said their preparation for the match against the Bulls was disrupted by Juan de Jongh's inclusion in the Bok squad.
Province will play the Bulls in their Currie Cup encounter at Newlands on Saturday.
Kickoff is at 5pm.
