Vermuelen ready for the long haul
Western Province forwards coach Matt Proudfoot says Duane Vermeulen looks ready for 80 minutes of rugby.
CAPE TOWN - Western Province forwards coach Matt Proudfoot on Tuesday said Duane Vermeulen looks ready for 80 minutes of rugby.
Vermulen played for 60 minutes against the Lions last week following a knee injury.
Province lost 26-23 to the Johannesburg side.
Proudfoot said they do not want to rush it.
"We were always cautious not to damage his ligament. Right now he looks ready."
Proudfoot says Vermeulen's game time depends on how he feels.
"If he gets to 70 minutes and say his leg is hurting we won't push him to 80 minutes. However, his contribution and involvement to the game has increased. It's looking well for him."
Meanwhile, Proudfoot added a Springbok call up for Vermeulen will be well deserved.
The Bok team will be announced later on Wednesday and Vermeulen is expected to be in the squad.
Proudfoot said the Province are preparing like normal.
"If he does get a call up that's fantastic for him. I think it's well deserved. It's been a long time coming."
