Engelbrecht ready for Currie Cup debut
The former Province man will run out against his old team at Newlands on Saturday.
JOHANNESBURG - JJ Engelbrecht will make his Currie Cup debut for the Bulls on Saturday.
The former Province man will run out against his old team at Newlands after being released from the Bok touring squad.
Coach Pine Pienaar says he is ready to impress.
"I know he's longing to get some game time so I'm looking forward to seeing what he has to offer."
Engelbrecht replaces Clayton Blommetjies who takes over from Jurgen Visser at fullback.
Captain Dewald Potgieter will run out for his 50th cap, something he believes is only worthwhile if the team manages to win.
"It's a nice personal milestone. However, my 50th cap in the Super Rugby was tragic because we lost. I'm hoping this time, it will be different. The 50th game is only worth it if the team puts a good performance."
Following two losses in their opening three matches, Western Province will be looking to bounce back at home this weekend.
Potgieter knows his team cannot underestimate them.
"I think they realise they are under pressure and they will do everything possible to win this game."
Kickoff is at 7pm.
