CAPE TOWN - Public Service and Administration Minister Lindiwe Sisulu said on Wednesday she would prefer a centralised public sector with one set of standards.

Sisulu said this should improve service delivery.

She also expressed relief that the state secured a multi-year wage deal with public service unions last month, without any strike action.

The minister added that the agreement will ensure the sector is professionalised.

"The public service is in need of a revamp. We were able, in this agreement, to ensure that there's clause we're bound to, to ensure that we can professionalise public service."

She emphasised the importance of the wage deal and it's maintenance of stability in the country.

"We have certainty to the extent to where it is possible for the next three years. We have stability for the next three years and hopefully a strike-free environment for the next three years."
