WC Metrorail to revamp signalling network
Metrorail hopes to begin revamping it's signalling network in two months time.
CAPE TOWN - Metrorail said on Monday it hopes work to revamp its signalling network will begin in two months time.
French multinational company Thales has been earmarked as the preferred bidder for the multibillion Rand upgrade.
It includes a complete overhaul of the current signalling system of the Western Cape's passenger rail network.
Provincial Transport MEC Robin Carlisle welcomed the planned improvements.
"They are a very well respected international company and we're very excited because things are starting to happen."
Metrorail's Western Cape Acting Business Development Manager Mthuthuzeli Swartz said it's a much needed upgrade.
"When this has been completed the trains will be running more smoothly, the intervals between trains can confidently be reduced without any fear of congestion or any problems within the system."
