CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Department of Home Affairs said on Monday telephone lines at their offices across the province will be restored as soon as possible.

The lines have been down since last week, while phone systems are being upgraded.

Following complaints from listeners, Eyewitness News contacted 10 Home Affairs offices, only managing to get through to one.

Home Affair's Yusuf Simons has urged patience, while the problem is being addressed.

"We've finalised about 60 percent of the verification process. There are just a few of the bigger offices in the metro that take a bit longer to verify. We are busy with that at the moment."

If you would like to contact the Home Affairs offices in the Western Cape you can call 083 947 2679 or visit the Home Affairs website.

"Before the end of this week, everything will be back to normal. We would have cleaned up our telephones lines and saved a lot of fruitless expenditure."
