Traffic cop arrested for drunk driving
An off-duty traffic officer has been arrested for drunken driving following a fatal accident near Hermanus.
CAPE TOWN - An off-duty traffic officer has been arrested for drunken driving following a fatal accident near Hermanus in the Overberg.
Two people died and two others, including a child, were injured in the collision on the R43 in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Authorities say they were in one car while the off-duty traffic cop was in the other.
Provincial Traffic Chief Kenny Africa says his officer is in custody.
"He was arrested for drunken driving and culpable homicide."
Last weekend, a high-ranking Cape Town police commander was arrested in connection with drunken driving after crashing his car into another in Khayelitsha.
