Gauteng ANC wants clean audits
The Gauteng ANC said it wants all its municipalities in the province to get clean financial audits.
JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng ANC on Thursday said it wants to see an improvement in the administration of its municipalities by 2013.
Provincial secretary David Makhura plans to meet ANC mayors in Midrand to assess their performance over the last year.
The ANC said it runs 11 municipalities in the province.
Makhura said the days of mayors keeping their jobs regardless of poor performance were gone.
He said the ANC will ensure that local government leaders take the Auditor-General's reports seriously.
The party will also be strict on implementing recommendations.
In July, Auditor-General Terence Nombembe revealed that only 13 councils in South Africa had clean audits in the last financial year.
His biggest worry was that many municipalities did not act on his recommendations and many officials lacked financial skills.
