'Semenya has a bright future'
Team SA athletics manager Hezekiel Sepeng says the country should be proud of Caster Semenya.
JOHANNESBURG - 800 metre Olympic silver medalist Caster Semenya has a bright future ahead of her, Team South Africa athletics manager Hezekiel Sepeng said on Sunday.
But he said the 21-year-old athlete did not run according to plan.
The former world champion remained at the back throughout the final before pushing forward in the last 100 metres.
Sepeng said South Africans should be very proud of her achievement.
"It is her first Olympic Games, she can only learn from it."
The track athlete finished in a time of 1:57.23, earning Team SA its sixth medal of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Russia's Mariya Savinova won gold, with teammate Ekaterina Poistogova winning bronze.
South Africa won three gold, two silver and a bronze medal at the Games.
