Guards burnt alive in mine violence
Violent clashes between Karee Mine workers have left 2 dead and 4 injured.
JOHANNESBURG - Two security guards were set alight and burnt to death while four others were wounded during a violent protest in Marikana in the North West province over the weekend.
Police confirmed the violent clashes between Karee Mine workers, affiliated with the National Union of Mine Workers and the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union since Saturday.
The workers set a vehicle alight on Sunday.
Two of the occupants were still in the vehicle and burnt to death.
Protesters have also blocked roads in the area.
"Police are busy with investigations into the murder and arson cases that were opened," the police's Thulani Ngubane confirmed to Eyewitness News .
"We are trying to make sure that we diffuse the situation."
