LONDON - Caster Semenya is one step closer to achieving her dream of winning an Olympic gold medal.

The 2009 World Champion dominated her field at the Olympic Stadium to finish her semi-final in first place.

Semenya blew her competition away, looking calm but determined.

She was slow out of the blocks but managed to stay in touching distance of the leaders for the first 600 metres.

She stormed ahead in the final bend, overtaking her competitors to cross the line in 1:57.68 seconds.

It means South Africa's flag bearer automatically qualifies for Saturday's race as her quest for Olympic gold continues.

She runs at around 9PM on Saturday.
