CAPE TOWN - Some gender activists are concerned too many South African offices and boardrooms remain dominated by men.

A recent survey conducted by the Businesswomen's Association of South Africa revealed only 5.3 percent of the chairs of listed companies are women.

The Tshwaranang Legal Advocacy Centre's Lisa Vetten says there has not been enough transformation in the work place.

"It's not happening as fast as it needs to be. I think the greatest success has been in Parliament, thanks to ANC policies. I think in the workplace and the private sector we are not seeing the kind of change that we'd like."

Meanwhile, women throughout the country are celebrating National Women's Day.

The day is the remainder of 1956 when 20,000 women marched to the Union Buildings to protest the Pass Laws.
