MP's reject Limpopo catch-up plan
Parliament's portfolio committee on education says a catch-up plan for Limpopo lacks focus.
CAPE TOWN - Parliament's portfolio committee on basic education said on Wednesday the catch up plan for Limpopo learners lacks timelines and focus.
On Tuesday, Members of Parliament (MPs) rejected the plan presented by the department of basic education.
Limpopo's textbook crisis has still not been resolved, despite a court order earlier this year.
Grade one to three and grade 10 pupils have been affected by the non delivery of textbooks.
Democratic Alliance MP Annette Lovemore said the basic education department needs to provide a more detailed plan that focuses on additional tuition and study guides for grade 10 learners.
"There is no urgency attached to this plan whatsoever and I just think that's what we really want to see. Knowing that these learners have to write exams at the end of the year, there's a level of urgency required. It is not being shown by the department of basic education."
