SA behind Blade Runner

Oscar Pistorius will compete in the men’s 400m sprint at 21:40 tonight.

JOHANNESBURG - South Africans are on Sunday rallying behind Oscar Pistorious who will compete in the semifinal of 400m sprint tonight at 21:40.

The Blade Runner came second in his heat on Saturday and made history by becoming the first double amputee ever to compete at the Games.

The Presidency's Mac Maharaj said it was an outstanding achievement.

"We are all rooting for him to come out on top. The entire nation is behind him and stands ready to salute him."

Meanwhile Proudly South Africa said Pistorius' spirit is the embodiment of resilience.

Thousands of fans have posted messages of support on social networking sites saying he is a true hero.

Proudly SA's Leslie Sedibe said everyone should look up to Pistorius.

"He continues to make SA proud and continues to shine on the international stage."
