CAPE TOWN - The Cape Town Disaster Management Department on Saturday said this year's winter has been the busiest thus far.

Flooding and stagnant water has been one of the biggest challenges, particularly for people living in low-lying areas, officials said.

The Department's spokesperson Wilfred Solomons-Johannes said they remained on high alert as August is historically known as the wettest month of the year.

"A series of cold fronts have made their way to Cape Town. Informal settlements have been the ones affected the most."
