JOHANNESBURG - Two men are behind bars after they tried to defraud a pensioner in what appears to be a 419 scam.

Police said the woman travelled from the Eastern Cape to claim her alleged winnings of R57 million and was requested to pay 10 percent for a tax discount.

The two were arrested during the transaction at a Kempton Park hotel on Wednesday after police were tipped off.

"The suspects will be facing charges of fraud," said Hawks spokesperson McIntosh Polela.

"They are going to be appearing in the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court on Friday."
