Three miners killed in illegal strike
NUM spokesperson Lesiba Seshoka called on police to take action against those involved.
JOHANNESBURG - The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) on Thursday condemned an illegal strike at a mine in the North West that lead to three men being shot dead and several others injured.
The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon.
NUM spokesperson Lesiba Seshoka said former Aquarius Platinum miners were demonstrating in front of the Kwezi Mine.
A guard from a private security company allegedly opened fire on them.
Seshoka called on police to take action against those involved.
"We regret these kinds of incidents. We are calling on law enforcement officers to leave no stone unturned and to decisively deal with anyone who is interfering with the daily running of the mine."
According to statement released by the mine, the situation has now returned to normal.
