'Ministry did not fund Malema's trip'
Sport Minister Fikile Mbalula has disputed footing the bill for Julius Malema's trip to London.
JOHANNESBURG - Sport Minister Fikile Mbalula said on Tuesday that suggestions government might have footed the bill for Julius Malema's stay in a London hotel are absurd and nonsense.
There are questions around who is paying for the former African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) league leader's bill in a top hotel - amid reports the two stayed in the same place.
Mbalula is furious with these claims.
"Julius and his whereabouts and what he is doing in London has nothing to do with the Sports Minsitry.
"It is quite absurd that people can become so desperate that they spread rumours of that nature."
He said there may be an ulterior motive to these claims.
"Something that is desperate measure by some to spread lies."
Mbalula and Malema are seen as political allies, who want to unseat President Jacob Zuma as African National Congress leader.
