JOHANNESBURG - Convicted former national police commissioner Jackie Selebi has been discharged from hospital and is at home, the Department of Correctional Services confirmed on Thursday.

In July, it was announced that the former top cop would be released on medical parole because he is suffering from end-stage renal disease.

Earlier this week, Steve Biko Academic Hospital CEO Ernest Kenoshi confirmed to Eyewitness News that Selebi was transferred to the Jakaranda Hospital on Tuesday.

But the CEO would not say why the ex-commissioner decided to move.

Kenoshi confirmed that Selebi was paying for his own medical bills.

In 2011, the controversial cop was sentenced to 15-years in prison for corruption.
