ANCWL shocked over woman's horrid captivity
A woman was held captive by a couple, kept chained to a bed and gave birth while in captivity.
JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress Women's League on Monday said it was horrified to hear about a KwaZulu-Natal woman who was held captive by a traditional healer and his wife for seven months.
The woman was kept chained to a bed and gave birth while in captivity.
The body of the baby has also been found by police.
The man and his wife are due to appear in court on Monday in connection with the incident.
"We just can't believe that someone could let something like that happen to a fellow woman, fellow human being," said the League's Troy Martens.
"It's just horrific."
Police found the 24-year-old last week, while searching a house in the Vuma area, near Eshowe.
Officers were following up on information regarding a separate crime and during the course of their investigation they found the woman in a room on the property. She had been bound with ropes.
It is believed she had been held captive since November.
