Baxter loses first Soweto Derby
Kaizer Chiefs coach says the preseason game against the Bucs gave him a clearer perspective on some players.
JOHANNESBURG - Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter on Saturday said despite losing to Orlando Pirates in his first Soweto Derby in charge, the preseason game gave him a clearer perspective on some players.
Chiefs lost 5-4 on penalties to Pirates who retain their Carling Black Label Cup title.
The game went straight to penalties after Benni McCarthy equalized for the Buccaneers in injury time to cancel out Abia Nale's goal which gave Amakhosi an early lead.
Baxter said some players have put their hands up for a regular spot in the starting 11.
"Nale did well on offence."
Meanwhile, Pirates coach Augusto Palacios said despite his side's great preseason performance, he was concerned about complacency.
Palacios said the victory against Chiefs was important because it would give his side the correct momentum going into the new season.
"The team needs to start afresh and understand their role on the field."
FNB Stadium was sold out with a total of 92,702 supporters.
