JOHANNESBURG - The petrol price will increase by 22 cents a litre from next Wednesday, the Department of Minerals and Energy announced on Friday.

Wednesday's increase is due to increasing global prices in Brent crude oil and the weaker rand.

Diesel will be going up by between 14 and 15 cents a litre.

Department spokesperson Robert Maake said crude oil prices increased from US$98 per barrel to over US$100 per barrel.

"We have also seen international petrol product prices increasing. Petrol increased by 3 cents a litre, diesel by 37 cents and ULP by 42cents."
